One Little Word: Connect

I'm attempting another year with One Little Word with Ali Edwards again this year. This year my word is CONNECT.

I tossed around family a lot, but connect seemed to make the most sense. I've been so absorbed in work lately and feeling like I'm just surviving, that I'm not focusing on what's important. Time with my family. Communicating with relatives I rarely talk to. Spending time with myself, focusing on me. Going out with friends I never see. Going to Sunday night dinners. Sending birthday cards or at least calling. Updating my blog so all of you can connect with me. I'm so out of all of that. I feel like it's time to bring myself back to life. To living it, and not just surviving.

So I'm making an effort. Hoping this class will help.

One Little Word: Health

One of my favorite blogs that I regularly stalk is Ali Edwards. She's where I get my December Scrapbook idea from, and this year she's doing a workshop called One Little Word. She's focusing on one word for a year. Incorporate that word into her life, and tracking how it changes throughout the year and how it changes her.

I signed up for the workshop yesterday, and I'm excited to get home and get set up, since I now have January and February classes to complete. Over the year you create a journal, that for me will be journaling, photography and scrapbooking combined. I decided to sign up for her class because my word just came to me, and I thought it would be the perfect time to try something new.

On January 1st I made my new years resolutions (I love new years resolutions!), and most of them focused on taking care of my self, like take a multivitamin every day, and flossing my teeth more, so when I read Ali's quest of One Little Word, the word "Health" immediately came to mind. I made the following scrapbook page for myself to help me focus on the word and put into context what it means to me. I used magazine scraps, which I've never done before (Heather, now I have scrapped with magazines!), and it became a collage of pictures, words and phrases that focus on my word and inspire me to cultivate the word into my life.

For the last month I have been flossing my teeth 4 times more a week than I ever used to (which means I now floss my teeth four times a week).
I've been taking my multivitamin, flax and omega's every day.
I've been keeping a food journal.
I've been eating my recommended servings of fruits and vegetables every day thanks to this book.
I've cut back my drinking to less than two drinks a week (a big change from my couple of beers every night!)
I drink 8 glasses of water a day (I used to drink 1)

That's it for now. I've been trying to get out of the house more and be outside, breath fresh air and take a walk. That's still a goal in progress. Also at some point I'm going to try meditation. I'll let you know how that goes. As of yet I haven't been focusing on working out, that's also a goal, but taking this in steps at a time, and trying not to overwhelm myself with too many changes too soon.

So far by just taking care of myself, and focusing on being healthier I've lost 5 lbs, which is a nice bonus of being healthier.

Does anyone else want to join in on the "One little word" journey? I'm looking forward to seeing how it changes this year, and if I can actually keep this up all year long!
